Who am I, anyway?

And why am I doing this?

I am Kristin, another patriotic American tired of standing by watching as the people in Washington and beyond destroy this country.

When I was a little girl, I told my parents that I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. My love for the printed word has never gone away, though I've had too few opportunities to write.  Over the years, I have written a tiny bit of everything from poetry to short stories, role play to political commentary.

Big shock, I am also an avid reader. To be brutally honest, I am a self-diagnosed, somewhat-recovered book addict. Before children, the house could have fallen down around me and I would gladly sacrifice a night's sleep to get my fix on the next chapter.

Children change a lot of things. I have fraternal twin boys who just turned six and boy have they ever rocked my world; rocked it so hard, I hardly remember the first three years of their lives. Maybe it's just me, but I'm convinced something magical happens on a kid's fifth birthday. It seems like overnight they go from being a lot of work to being engaging, self-sufficient, interesting little people....and a lot of work. Did I mention I homeschool them?

My loving and patient husband and I have been married almost 11 years now. Let me stress the word PATIENT here. He's a Scorpio. Patience is not something that comes easy for him. It's only by God's grace that he puts up with me (and I with him, but I digress).  Love you honey. *smooch*

Speaking of God, I am a Christian. Daily, I strive to put more and more of my trust in Him. As I do, my life feels more and more blessed. That's not the saying that I don't sometimes have an OMG, I'm freaking out, is it 5:00 yet, moments. Sometimes....err, umm, okay, so, weekly.

In addition to reading, I am passionate about food and wine. Passionate to the point that I'd rather not eat than eat something that's not delicious. I know, that's crazy, but that's me.

I hope this blog will in some small way inspire my readers and help preserve and restore this country for my sons.

I welcome your (respectful) comments. The thought that someone, somewhere out there, is reading this helps keep me going.

~Kristin

  3. What a nice post about you, Kristin. You sound like a wonderful person, and are so lucky to be blessed with a nice family.

I find too, that if we give our problems to God, it makes our
    burdens lighter. Take care.

  4. I just realized why you're reaching out to the world of political blogs. You're trying to recover those three years you lost with your sons by talking to adults now.

You and your blog are such a welcome addition to my daily routine.

  5. Odie, I just sense that the people who read this blog are all kindred spirits. I sign on half the time just to see what YOU are going to say!! Your comments are always spot on. I'll stay tuned. By the way, I looked at your artwork (Mr. Woodsterman) and am requiring a new drool cup. Your woodwork is divine.

  6. Wow Betty Ann, I think I'm blushing. I just clicked on your name in hopes of following you back to your blog. That is the shortest profile I have ever seen. I will respect your privacy. Leave a comment when you're there. That way I can at least thank you for stopping by.

Thank you Kristin for allowing us to barrow this platform.

  7. Kristin, OMG...I love your attack chicken and Diana Gabaldon! Just wait until you get to her most recent - Echo In The Bone - I read all 900 odd pages in about 2 1/2 days it was that good. I think we might be "kindred spirits"...or if not I still love your blog. :} ~Lady CIncinnatus

  8. Thanks Lady Cincinnatus! I'm on "Drums of Autumn" now (really need to update that blog page, eh?). But poor Jamie and Claire haven't had any of my attention in the last couple of weeks; I have been so busy trying to keep up with what is going on in the world.

I am glad you found my blog and can't wait to go see yours!

  9. Kristen,
I think we are kindred spirits...all except the part where your a mom and all. I too had hopes of writing and then I found out how much work it is and that talent is desirable. Still I drivel on. We have to you know. What we have to say has meaning if no one ever reads it. They do read it and they think and we have done our part.

Somewhere in there we make a difference and for me that is enough. Well that and maybe a book deal for a book about absolutely nothing in particular; since that is what I know.

Keep at it. It matters to me...
