What happened to cotton?

I have a pet peeve.

Half of all my shirts get holes in them right here.

And it's not just me, the same thing happens to my mom and my sister. Small holes in the fabric right at the waistband. I'm sure it's the button of our jeans making the holes but a shirt should be able to stand up to a pair of jeans.

This often happens the very first time I wear a shirt! I blame cheap fabric with short fibers from low quality cotton, but it even happens with expensive shirts! This one is from a well-known designer.

It happens in summer and winter shirts.

Please tell me it's not some genetic anomaly with the women in my family.

And why does it just seems to be women's shirts? Are we the only ones?

  1. I have the same problem (but I'm also one of the women in your family....) One wearing and I need to throw out the shirt. Now I need to keep receipts for returning instead. What a pain.

  3. No Kristin, it is not only with women's shirts.

My last son still living at home is 14. His cotton T-shirts all develop holes right near the waistband area.

Funny thing is, he never tucks a T-shirt in. So, it can't be from the pants button.

My wife and I have talked about this before. Weird, huh?

  6. Thank god I'm in drag only part of the time, or this hole thing would curse me all the time.

  8. Is it 100% cotton? I've found that some blends do that. Also it may not be the cotton, but the process by which they make the fabric. Seems fabrics or so THIN these days doesn't take any time for a hole to appear.

  9. Some are 100% cotton, some are blends. Some are thin, some are t-shirt weight. It doesn't really seem to matter.

    So frustrating.
